If your husband sits most of the day, look for a chair that spreads his weight across the seat and tilts back, so you can shift pressure without lifting him.

Broda Synthesis Positioning Wheelchair with Tilt & Recline (V4)
What matters in a chair for pressure injuries
Weight spread across the seat
A pressure injury, also called a pressure sore or bedsore, is damage to skin and the tissue under it where weight presses on a bony spot for too long. Broda designs Comfort Tension Seating to carry the body on many individual straps instead of one flat board. The straps spread his weight and let air move beneath him. If a chair has a hard seat pan instead of straps, plan on a pressure-redistributing cushion as well.
Tilt that moves the pressure
Sitting upright puts most of his weight on the tailbone and the two sitting bones. Tilt-in-space leans the entire seat back with his hips and knees held at the same angle, which moves part of that weight onto his back. On Broda positioning chairs, one caregiver can do this with a squeeze handle, so regular shifts are realistic even on a busy day. His care team can say how often and how far.
Gentler transfers and bathing
Skin can also be hurt by shear, the stretching pull that happens when the body slides but the skin stays put against a surface. Transfers, toileting and bathing are where sliding tends to happen. Arm and leg supports that swing away or lift off give you room to move him without dragging. A shower commode that tilts means fewer transfers on bath days.

Broda Synthesis Positioning Wheelchair with Tilt & Recline (V4)
From $4,506.40MSRP
For someone who sits most of the day, the Synthesis pairs Comfort Tension Seating with deep tilt (to 40 degrees) and full recline (to 90 degrees). Broda designs it to redistribute pressure and let air circulate under the body.
The Elite Tilt keeps things simpler, tilting to 40 degrees with no recline, on Broda's strap seating. Seat widths go up to 24 inches, giving a broader person room at the hips instead of a tight fit.
Broda Encore Pedal Wheelchair with Tilt & Rocking (48RV4)
From $3,194.94MSRP
If he still gets around with his feet, the Encore Pedal combines strap seating with seat tilt, so a caregiver can lean him back between trips down the hall. Front-pivot tilt keeps his feet on the floor while he is tilted.
Broda Revive Shower Commode with Tilt & Recline (CS385)
From $3,878.62MSRP
The Revive lets him stay in one chair from bedside to shower. It tilts and reclines, supports his legs on a full leg rest, and uses a strap seat that is easy to clean, which cuts down on extra transfers.
Bring his wound care nurse or therapist into the choice, along with an Assistive Technology Professional (ATP) if one is available. Ask whether they can do pressure mapping, a test that shows where weight concentrates on the seat. Seat depth matters: too short and the sitting bones carry extra load, too deep and he slides forward. Footrest height affects the same balance. If a red area appears, or his weight goes up or down, ask for the seating to be checked again.
Call or send a quote request. Tell us the person's height, weight and diagnosis, and where the chair will be used.
Confirm the model with their therapist or ATP. We send a written quote that lists the exact model, size and options.
We order direct from Broda. The chair ships to any US address. In Arizona, our own crew can deliver it, set it up and fit it.
Paying for the chair
Many families pay privately. Insurance or a public program may help when a doctor, therapist or ATP documents why the person needs the chair. Whether it is covered depends on the plan. Our written quote lists the exact model and options, so it can go straight into that paperwork. Facilities, care organizations and multi-unit buyers can ask us about partner pricing.
Questions families ask about Pressure injuries
Can a wheelchair stop pressure sores?
No chair can promise that. Seating is one part of skin care, alongside regular position changes, daily skin checks and the plan from his nurse or doctor. A chair that spreads weight and tilts easily can make the seating part of that plan easier for the people doing the work.
Does a Broda wheelchair need a cushion?
It depends on the model. Broda's strap-seat chairs are normally set up with Broda's own cushion over the straps. Chairs with a solid seat pan, such as the Comfort Rehab, need a separate pressure-redistributing cushion. His clinician should pick the cushion based on his skin and the way he sits.
What are signs a wheelchair seat is causing pressure problems?
Watch for red or dark patches of skin that stay after he has been off that area for a while, new pain after sitting, or a habit of sliding forward or leaning. Tell his nurse about skin changes promptly, and ask for the seating setup to be looked at again.
How often should a wheelchair user be repositioned?
His care team should set that schedule, because it depends on his skin and his overall condition. What the chair can do is make each change less work. With tilt-in-space, one person can lean the seat back without lifting him, so the schedule is easier to keep on a long day.
This guide is general product information, not medical advice. Chair features are described as Broda designs them. Choose seating together with the person's doctor, therapist or ATP.
